First timer's guide

never slept in a tent? you're welcome here.

Here's what you need to feel prepared and comfortable.

essential gear

  • Shelter: Tent with a rain fly. Try setting it up at home first.
  • Sleep: Sleeping bag and sleeping pad. The pad keeps you warm.
  • Lighting: Headlamp or flashlight.
  • Clothing: Layers. Synthetic or wool fabrics stay warm when damp.
  • Personal care: Towel, toiletries, bug spray, sunblock.

pro tips for comfort

  • No-shoes rule: Leave shoes outside the tent door to keep your sleep area clean.
  • Shake your shoes: Clear out any curious bugs before putting them on.
  • Cooler care: Keep it shaded or in your car. Drain water so food stays dry.
  • Stay dry: Don't let belongings touch tent walls in the rain.
Questions

frequently asked.

What is the shower and bathroom situation?

Vault toilets are located throughout the campground within easy walking distance of our sites. A modern building with flush toilets and showers is available at the entrance to the Family Campground.

Is there electricity at our sites?

Our reserved campsites (64–70) are non-electric. Bring a portable power bank if you need to charge a device.

What food should I bring?

Aside from the Sunday grill-out at 1:00 PM, you're responsible for your own meals. Easy options work best: sandwiches, fruit, trail mix, or pre-cooked meals you can reheat over the fire. Coordinate with your site-mates to share supplies.

How do I store food safely?

Always store food, trash, and toiletries (including toothpaste) in your locked vehicle overnight. Local raccoons are expert foragers.

Do I have to stay for the whole weekend?

Not at all. Sign up for one or two nights, or come for the day. Let us know your plans on the registration form.

What about cars and parking?

Each site is limited to two cars. We'll coordinate carpooling so everyone has a ride. You'll need a Wisconsin State Park vehicle sticker (daily or annual) to enter the park.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are welcome but must be leashed at all times. They aren't permitted on the swimming beach or in picnic shelters.
