God Keeps Interfering
Week four closes the Esther series with a guest. John Hunter, a missionary and potter who has spent twenty five years in southern Africa, set out to hitchhike to India in 1972 and came to faith in Kabul instead. That detour is his point. God interferes on a regular basis. Esther never planned on the palace, and a school John moved his family across the country to start collapsed before it opened. Read a life by its influences, its character, and what it contributed, and the interference starts to look like preparation.

Placed, Present, Positioned
Week three in Esther gives the series its verbs. Placed, present, positioned. Esther waited five years in a palace she did not choose before the moment came. When it did, she risked it rather than calling it arrival, and she did not stop at her own safety. Spare my people. A king who could not sleep, a scroll read at the right hour, a gallows built for the wrong man. Call it coincidence, or see it in completion and notice that God was present and moving the whole time.

Jesus, open my eyes to Your presence. Help me notice that You are at work in the ordinary rhythms of my life. Teach me to slow down, be present with You, and trust that You are working even when I cannot see it. Amen.

Morning, start the day with breath prayer or by praying a psalm. Midday, add intercession to your rhythm. Be present with the people and places around you, asking God each day, "How can I join You in what You're doing here?"
Pray
Jesus, help me see my neighborhood, workplace, friendships, and everyday interactions through Your eyes. Make me attentive to the people You've placed in front of me and faithful to love them well. Amen.
